Here is the evidence of meeting outcomes 4 and 6:
(Examine and reflect upon the potential for equitable access for all learners in online and open learning contexts and practicing digital, networked, and open literacies in support of learning about distributed and open learning. )
The reconstructing of how post secondary students receive their education is a process in which I have never stopped to think about. This course made me consider this and I further reflected about the decrease in textbook requirements which has been replaced by open resources. I mentioned this in my second post, and also consider the potential of open learning. Here is a snippet:
Here is a comment I left on Emily’s blog where I consider how differently education could’ve looked this year if we didn’t have technology. It is weird to consider where we would be without zoom, brightspaces and open resources. The pandemic really brought light to the potential of online learning.
Further, we explored similar ideas in our pod project.
One eye-opening excerpt that really put things into perspective to me was from the open pedagogy reading. I’ll include a screenshot below:
I couldn’t believe that half of the students in BC are unable to purchase at least one textbook. I couldn’t believe it in the way that this isn’t talked about more. Paying for post secondary on its own is so expensive, let alone the textbooks and I am glad that we are considering more sustainable and accessible options.
I also want to briefly touch on social media vs textbooks, here is a bit from my post 2 as well:
There is so much potential when it comes to using online resources, a huge one being social media.
From doing the readings, discussions, and our pod project I was able to understand how beneficial online and open learning can be and its potential. How are we to grow as learners and educators if we are never changing? This progressive route we are taking is one I can get on board with. I really enjoy learning about current ways to make the future of learners easier and more accessible.
